Sew-In Weft FAQ's

Sew-In Weft FAQ’s

How long do the extensions last?

We recommend reapplying extensions every 8-10 weeks as your natural hair grows out.  The wefts can be worn for more than 3 additional applications, when properly cared for.

Can you color the extensions?

We offer 21 colors in Hand Tied and Machine Weft, allowing for hundreds of customized looks.  If you absolutely must customize further, you may deposit color up to 2 levels. We do not recommend you lighten the extensions.  Please keep in mind coloring the extensions voids the manufacturer’s warranty.

Can you color or do chemical processes on the same day you install the extensions?

Yes, you can color your client’s hair prior to applying sew-in extensions. There is no down time with this method of extension application.

How often should you wash your hair?

We recommend washing your hair 1-2 times per week, using Hotheads® Hair Care to preserve the integrity of the extension hair.

Can you blow dry, flatiron, and curl the hair?

All Hotheads®  hair extensions can be heat-styled with up to 350° F..  We recommend using a heat protectant prior to styling to preserve the integrity of the hair.

What products can be used in the hair?

Always use our Clean Shampoo and Smooth Conditioner which is specially formulated for our 100% Remy human hair.  You can supplement with styling products of your choice, keeping in mind that products that alter the extensions void the warranty.

Can roots be retouched while the extensions are in the hair?

It is recommended to do color or chemical services in between removal and reapplication.  If you choose to do color or chemical services in between extension services, you may do a partial t-zone retouch, avoiding the secondary (extension) hair.

Can I swim, exercise, or go in the sauna?

We recommend applying and leaving in Hotheads Hydrate Conditioning Masque as a leave-in treatment prior to swimming.  This nourishes the hair while preventing it from absorbing harmful substances, such as chlorine and minerals. Hair tangles when dirt and sweat build up so advise clients to wear their hair up or in a ponytail when exercising or relaxing in a sauna.  Clients should wash their hair after exercising, as excess oils may cause the beads to slip. Exposing extensions to sunscreens and spray tans may cause discoloration.

Client Do’s
Brush hair 2-3 times a day to avoid tangling.  Using a soft boar bristle brush, start at the ends and work your way up, always brushing in a downward motion.

Always brush before shampooing to keep hair from matting.

Be sure to use our Hotheads® Hair Care to cleanse and condition hair.  It is important for second hair to receive the proper nutrients and hydration to promote beautiful and healthy looking hair.

Treat with our Hydrate conditioning masque 1-2 times per week, from mid-shaft to ends avoiding the silicone bead.  This is especially important for blonde shades.

Wear your hair in a ponytail or loose braid when swimming, exercising and sleeping, in order to reduce tangling.

Wash your hair after swimming and exercising to avoid excess oils, which may cause slippage of the silicone beads.

Protect hair while swimming with a small amount of Hydrate Conditioning Masque.  This prevents hair from absorbing harmful elements, such as chlorine or salt water.

Protect while hair styling with a heat protectant.
